NBA : Cavaliers Head to Boston for Eastern Conference Showdown

The Cleveland Cavaliers are on top of the Eastern Conference standings, but the Boston Celtics have closed the gap. They’re won 12 of their last 16 games and are now just four games back. They’ll have another chance to cut into that lead when they host Cleveland Wednesday night.

For the Cavs, this is the first of three back-to-back road games. They’ve hosted the Celtics twice already this season, winning both games, while shredding their defense. They’ve averaged 126 points per game in those two contests.

The Celtics head west for a five-game trip after Wednesday, so they’ll aim to start their road trip with a win over the team they’re chasing in the East. Isaiah Thomas continues to dominate, as he ranks second in the NBA in scoring, but the team’s offense has faded of late. They’ve averaged just 100.5 points per game over their last four.
Overall, Cleveland is 8-2 SU in their last 10 against the Celtics.

NBA Odds: Cavaliers Hope to Have James in Boston on Wednesday

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers has had his share of success against the Boston Celtics. However, the Cavaliers can only hope to have their leader in the lineup on Wednesday in Boston.

James missed Saturday’s game against Chicago with strep throat, but returned Monday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Cavaliers will hope he’s healthy for Wednesday. He has been great in two wins over the Celtics this season, averaging 26.5 points, 11.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds. On the other side, Isaiah Thomas has put up 30.5 points and 7.5 assists in two losses, but Boston has had no answer for King James.

NCAAB : SMU Hosts Tulsa With AAC Title on the Line

The No. 14 SMU Mustangs can lock down at least a share of the AAC regular-season title this Thursday (8 PM ET, CBSSN) when they welcome the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to Moody Coliseum in Dallas. The Mustangs (25-4 SU, 18-5-1 ATS) are one game up on the Cincinnati Bearcats with two games left to go.

It’s been a remarkable run for the Mustangs in their first year under head coach Tim Jankovic. He took over in July after Larry Brown resigned; the team Jankovic inherited was already loaded with talent, but they’ve put it all together on the court with sound two-way play and a low turnover rate, generating one of the best ATS records in college hoops.

The Golden Hurricane (14-14 SU, 15-12 ATS) have also been profitable this year, but expectations were low after losing eight senior players from the 2015-16 squad. Third-year head coach Frank Haith restocked his program with JUCO transfers and three-star prospects; junior forward Junior Etou has done his part to keep Tulsa competitive, putting up 17.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per 40 minutes. Still, it was the Mustangs winning their earlier matchup 76-53 as 9-point road favorites, up from –7.5 at the open.

NCAAB Odds: Moneymaker Mustangs Host Tulsa

There aren’t too many college basketball teams more profitable than the SMU Mustangs (25-4 SU, 18-5-1 ATS). They host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (14-14 SU, 15-12 ATS) this Thursday night, tipping off at 8 PM ET on CBSSN.

Head coach Tim Jankovic has SMU at No. 14 in this week’s rankings after taking over from the retired Larry Brown in June. The Mustangs are solid on both sides of the ball, and they squashed the Hurricane 76-53 as 9-point road favorites in their other regular-season matchup, with senior guard Sterling Brown scoring 27 points on just 15 shots.

Entertainment Odds: And the Oscar Goes to...

Millions of people will be tuning in this Sunday (8:30 PM ET, ABC) to see what the world’s biggest movie stars have to say about the current state of affairs – and to see who takes home the hardware at the 89th Academy Awards. It’s widely assumed that La La Land will win the Oscar for Best Picture; the Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling musical is a –700 chalk at press time.

There’s a chance that Moonlight (+550) will sneak away with Best Picture, but if not, the critically-acclaimed film is a near-lock at –700 to win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. One of the movie’s top stars, Mahershala Ali, is also a heavy –700 favorite to win Best Supporting Actor.

The race for Best Actor is much closer. It’s a two-way battle between Manchester by the Sea leading man Casey Affleck (–160) and Fences actor/director Denzel Washington (EVEN). Affleck won the Critics’ Choice and BAFTA awards in the same category, while Washington was the choice of the Screen Actors Guild. Emma Stone is a –700 favorite to win the Best Actress Oscar for her work in La La Land, well ahead of Jackie star Natalie Portman at +500.

Entertainment Odds: Lots of La La Land at 89th Oscars

Sunday’s 89th Academy Awards (8:30 PM ET, ABC) are bound to be controversial, but there isn’t much debate over who’ll win the Oscar for Best Picture. La La Land is a massive –700 favorite at press time; Emma Stone is –700 to win Best Actress for her work in the hit musical.

The Best Actor race is between Casey Affleck (–160) from Manchester by the Sea and Denzel Washington (EVEN) from Fences. The supporting Oscars are far less competitive, with Fences co-star Viola Davis a shoo-in at –3000, and Mahershala Ali pegged at –700 for his role in Moonlight.

NHL : Canadiens Welcome Islanders on Thursday

After winning only their second game in the past eight on Tuesday versus the Rangers, the Montreal Canadiens (32-20-8) hope to build on their recent victory against the other New York hockey club. Since firing head coach Michel Therrien and hiring Claude Julien, the Habs are 1-1.

Carey Price (2.44 goals against average, .918 save percentage), who had been in slump since mid-December, has returned to form in the last two games, posting a .936 save percentage. The Habs will rely on Price’s resurgence going forward, as the Canadiens have dropped to 12th in team offense (2.8 goals per game) and have scored more than two goals only twice in their last eight games.

The New York Islanders (28-21-10), meanwhile, have found their own resurgence since firing head coach Jack Capuano and replacing him with assistant general manager Doug Weight. Since the move, the Islanders have pulled themselves out of last place in the Eastern Conference, and have gone 11-4-2. They’re now tied with Florida and Boston for the final wildcard position in the East. Look for team captain John Tavares (22 goals, 28 assists) to lead his team offensively against the Canadiens (7:30 PM ET on SNE).

NHL Odds: Greiss versus Price in Battle of Eastern Conference Foes

The Montreal Canadiens (32-20-8) welcome the New York Islanders (28-21-10) on Thursday (7:30 PM ET on SNE). After getting their first victory under new head coach Claude Julien, the Canadiens will look to build on that momentum against a red-hot Islanders team.

This matchup features two goaltenders that have struggled at points this season. Thomas Greiss (2.50 goals against average, .918 save percentage) has established himself as a starting goalie for the first time in his career. Carey Price (2.44 goals against average, .918 save percentage), meanwhile, seems to have found his game again after struggling for much of 2017.

NHL : Reeling Flyers Seek Relief in Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Flyers have been a bit off since the holidays. They’ve won just eight games since the Christmas break, and now they’ve got a tough one coming up this Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. NBC provides national coverage starting at 8 PM ET.

Thanks to the league’s playoff format, the Flyers are still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but they’re still one of the worst teams in the NHL. Philadelphia is tied for last with a .895 save percentage, while only scoring 2.53 goals per game (No. 21 overall). The Flyers are also near the bottom of the barrel against the puck line at 23-36 ATS and –20.72 betting units heading into Wednesday’s action.

Pittsburgh, on the other hand, leads the NHL at 3.48 goals per game, with a respectable .913 save percentage (No. 11 overall). But the Penguins are also allowing 32.2 shots per game; only four teams have been more porous on defense. That’s making it tough for Pittsburgh to win by the necessary two goals to beat the puck line. Losing top defenseman Justin Schultz (plus-31 in 56 games) to a concussion last Thursday won’t help matters, either.

NHL Odds: Flyers-Penguins on The Peacock

Hockey will be in the spotlight this Saturday when NBC airs the Metropolitan Division showdown between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins, live from the Steel City at 8 PM ET.

It’s a big mismatch on paper. The Penguins lead the NHL in scoring at 3.48 goals per game, while the Flyers are tied for last with a .895 save percentage. However, it looks like Pittsburgh will be without top blueliner Justin Schultz after he suffered a concussion last Thursday. Schultz (39 points in 56 games) leads the Pens at plus-31, tying him for sixth overall in the league.

Politics Odds: Will Donald Trump complete a full term as POTUS?

The heat is on. Recent revelations about shady dealings between Donald Trump’s people and Russian intelligence have people wondering whether the POTUS will even make it through his first term. “Yes” remains the –130 favorite at press time, but Trump’s position is getting weaker with each passing headline.

The resignation of Michael Flynn as Trump’s national security advisor on Monday may have opened up the floodgates. Flynn admitted to giving “incomplete information” about his contact with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak before Trump assumed the presidency, which could prove to be in violation of the Logan Act. Then, according to The New York Times, American law enforcement and intelligence agencies said they intercepted repeated communications between Trump associates and senior Russian intelligence officials during the presidential campaign.

Trump might end up resigning his post rather than face impeachment – or things may blow over and he’ll remain in power. But there’s also the question of longevity; at age 70, Trump is the oldest person ever to assume the presidency for his first term. Ronald Reagan was 69 years, 11 months and 14 days old when he took his first oath of office in 1981. He went on to serve two full terms.

Politics Odds: Will Donald Trump Stay in Power?

Things haven’t been going Donald Trump’s way lately. At press time, Trump is still a –130 favorite to complete a full term as President of the United States, but his odds have been getting longer as connections between his people and Russian intelligence are revealed in the press.

In Wednesday’s edition of The New York Times, American law enforcement and intelligence officials said they had intercepted multiple communications between Trump associates and the Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign. Pundits are comparing Trump’s situation to the Watergate scandal that led to Richard Nixon’s resignation as POTUS in 1973.

NBA : New-Look Pelicans Host Rockets on Thursday

The New Orleans Pelicans just hosted the All-Star Game and saw their very own Anthony Davis win the MVP. But the celebration was brief because the next day, the Pelicans made a huge trade, acquiring DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings. Cousins is expected to play his first game on Thursday when the Pelicans host the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets are sitting fourth in the Western Conference, with James Harden among the front-runners for the MVP award. Harden is third in the league in scoring, first in assists and is averaging over eight rebounds a game. The Rockets rank behind only Golden State in scoring.

The Pelicans are 11th place in the West and only two games out of eighth. The trade for Cousins will hopefully push them into the postseason. Cousins and Davis are fourth and fifth in the league, respectively, in scoring, while Davis is sixth in rebounding and Cousins is 11th. They both played at the University of Kentucky, and the Pelicans are hoping that connection pays off.

Houston is 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings with the Pelicans, who lost 122-100 to the Rockets at home on December 16. Harden had a triple-double with 29 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds.

NBA Odds: Cousins Makes Pelicans Debut Against Rockets

DeMarcus Cousins was traded from Sacramento to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday after the All-Star Game. He’ll make his debut on Thursday when the Pelicans host the Houston Rockets.

Cousins teams up with Anthony Davis, who won the All-Star Game MVP with a record 52 points. The two played at Kentucky (not at the same time) and are familiar with each other, so it’ll be interesting to see how they fit. They’ll get a tough test from the Rockets, who have MVP favorite
James Harden. In a December game against the Pelicans, Harden put up a triple-double, leading the Rockets to a 122-100 victory.

NBA : Warriors Host Clippers in “Second Half” Tip-Off

The Golden State Warriors went into the All-Star break as –170 favorites to regain the NBA championship. They’ll start the unofficial second half of the regular season this Thursday when they host the Los Angeles Clippers, tipping off at 10:30 PM ET.

This year’s Warriors team (47-9 SU, 27-27-2 ATS) is performing at an even higher level than last year’s 73-game winners. Adding Kevin Durant (+8.1 BPM) alongside Stephen Curry (+6.5 BPM) has taken away from each former MVP’s raw stats, but it’s made the Dubs tougher overall. Zaza Pachulia (+3.2 BPM) has also proved to be a capable – and generally healthier – replacement for departed center Andrew Bogut.

Health hasn’t been very kind to the Clippers (35-21 SU, 29-27 ATS). Their best player, Chris Paul (+9.8 BPM), is targeting a March 1 return after having surgery on his torn left thumb. Los Angeles is 6-7 SU and 7-6 ATS since Paul went on the shelf, although they did win their last four games straight up and against the spread after moving Ray Felton (–0.4 BPM) to the bench and putting Luc Mbah a Moute (+0.6 BPM) back in the starting lineup.

NBA Odds: Resurgent Clippers Face Warriors in Oakland

After a much-needed lineup shuffle, the Los Angeles Clippers (29-27 SU, 35-21 ATS) carry a four-game SU and ATS winning streak into Thursday’s game against the best team in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors (47-9 SU, 27-27-2 ATS). Tip-off is at 10:30 PM ET on TNT.

The Clippers still don’t have Chris Paul (+9.8 BPM), but they are playing better now that they’ve “gone big” with Luc Mbah a Moute (+0.6 BPM) replacing Ray Felton (–0.4 BPM) in the starting lineup. That might not be enough to stop the Dubs; they’re 14-3 SU and 12-4-1 ATS since mid-January.

NHL : Oilers-Blackhawks at the United Center

Two of the better teams in the Western Conference will meet this Saturday (7 PM ET, WGN) when the Chicago Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers. The Blackhawks sit comfortably in second place in the Central Division, while the Oilers are in good shape for an automatic playoff berth in the Pacific – their first playoffs in over a decade.

The Hawks are no strangers to the postseason. They’ve won three Stanley Cups since Joel Quenneville took over as head coach in 2008; this year’s team is third on the Cup futures market at +700, featuring the 1-2 goaltending punch of Corey Crawford (.918 save percentage) and Scott Darling (.927 SV%). However, Chicago could be overvalued in this spot, with mediocre results in the Corsi and Fenwick advanced stats.

Edmonton is a Top-10 team in both those categories. The Oilers (+2000) have been playing in relative anonymity ever since losing Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Final to the Carolina Hurricanes, but their collection of high draft picks is finally paying off. The first overall pick in 2015, center Connor McDavid, is already an All-Star. But even with his help, there’s a chance that goalie Cam Talbot (.920 SV%) could burn out after starting nearly every game.

NHL Odds: Oilers, Hawks in Wild West Showdown

Fans at the United Center will be treated to a potential Western Conference playoff preview this Saturday when the upstart Edmonton Oilers visit the Chicago Blackhawks. The puck drops at 7 PM ET on WGN.

The Hawks have won three Stanley Cups since Edmonton last made the playoffs in 2006. However, the Oilers have one of the NHL’s brightest young talents in Connor McDavid, the first overall pick in the 2015 draft. They also have superior advanced stats, according to Corsi and Fenwick. Chicago sits in the middle of the pack in both categories.

NHL: Sens Visit the Devils this Thursday

Sitting second in the Atlantic Division, the Ottawa Senators (29-19-6) will look to capitalize on a Devils team that finds themselves in 12th place in the East and eight points out of a playoff spot. The Sens are coming off of a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday night, but following the return of their starting goalie, Craig Anderson (2.37 goals against average, .926 save percentage) and another dominating offensive season from defenseman Erik Karlsson (8 goals, 38 assists), Ottawa will lean on their stars as they attempt to regain their winning stride against the Devils.

The New Jersey Devils (24-22-10) are coming off of a 3-2 win against the last-place Colorado Avalanche. The Devils are 1-1 following their league-mandated bye week and sport a 5-4-1 record over their last 10 games. New Jersey has been mediocre this season; they’re currently 29th in team offense (2.27 goals scored per game) and 17th in team defense (2.82 goals against per game). They’ll depend heavily on goaltender Cory Schneider (2.66 goals against average, .912 save percentage) to keep the Sens off the board and give their offense a chance to score.

NHL Odds: Anderson leads Ottawa into New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils (24-22-10) welcome the Ottawa Senators (29-19-6) on Thursday (7 PM ET on TSN5). After beating the last-place Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, New Jersey will try to build on that momentum with a home victory at the Prudential Center.

With the return of Craig Anderson (2.37 goals against average, .926 save percentage), the Senators can again build from the net out. The Sens have used four goaltenders in 2016-17, but now that Anderson has returned to the team following his wife’s illness, the team will have the goaltending stability they’ve grown accustomed to.

NBA : Beleaguered Knicks Travel to Oklahoma City

The New York Knicks are making news for their off-court troubles these days, and they’re struggling on the court as well. They’ll hit the road on Wednesday to face an Oklahoma City Thunder team that’s also slumping.

The Knicks are 25th in the league in points allowed, which offsets their 12th-place ranking in points scored. Despite being the subject of trade rumors and a feud with Phil Jackson, Carmelo Anthony is putting up over 23 points a night. Kristaps Porzingis has had a few injury problems this season, but he’s still averaging over 18 points and seven rebounds.

The Thunder continue to go as Russell Westbrook goes, and he continues to average a triple-double with 30.9 points (first in the NBA), 10.4 rebounds and 10.1 assists. A lack of three-point shooting puts pressure on the Thunder to drive into a packed lane as they’re 29th in the league from downtown; only Chicago is worse.

Oklahoma City is 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Knicks, but they’ve struggled of late. The Thunder have lost three of their last four with the losses coming by an average of 13.6 points per game.

NBA Odds: Knicks Try to Slow Down Westbrook, Thunder

Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder has been a force this season, averaging a triple-double heading towards the All-Star break. On Wednesday, the Thunder host the New York Knicks, who’ve dropped four of their last five games.

Westbrook leads the league in scoring and is still holding steady with double-digits in rebounding and assists. He had a triple-double when the Thunder visited New York City in November, putting up 27 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists to lead the Thunder to a 112-103 win over the Knicks. Derrick Rose netted 30 for New York that night.

NCAAB : Wisconsin Visits Michigan in Big Ten Battle

The Big Ten has seen better times on the hardcourt, but the top team in the conference will be in action Thursday night (7 PM ET, ESPN) when the Wisconsin Badgers visit the Michigan Wolverines. The No. 11-ranked Badgers lead the way at 21-4 SU and 11-11 ATS; the Wolverines are in the middle of the pack at 16-9 SU and 9-13 ATS.

Although Michigan has fallen to +20000 on the March Madness futures market, this program has some things going for them – especially on offense, where senior guard Derrick Walton (+9.6 BPM) is putting up 17.6 points and 4.4 assists per 40 minutes while hitting 44.2% of his 3-point attempts. Walton was 3-of-5 from behind the arc in last month’s 68-64 loss to Wisconsin (–11.5) at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (+3300 to win March Madness) may be the best the Big Ten has to offer, but they’re 2-6 ATS in their last eight games, starting with that narrow victory over Michigan. They’re also coming off a 66-59 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats, once again coughing up the cash as 11.5-point home favourites. Shooting just 66.6% from the free-throw line hasn’t helped their cause.

After their first home loss in 19 games, the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers hit the road Thursday  night to play the Michigan Wolverines in Big Ten action. ESPN has the coverage starting at 7 PM ET.

When these two teams met January 17 at the Kohl Center, it was Wisconsin (21-4 SU, 11-11 ATS) prevailing 68-64, but Michigan (16-9 SU, 9-13 ATS) bagged the cash as 11.5-point underdogs on the closing line. The Badgers were also 11.5-point favourites in Sunday’s 66-59 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats. Gimpy senior guard Bronson Koenig (+5.6 BPM) shot just 1-for-8 for Wisconsin.

NBA : Cavs Prepare for Rolling OKC Thunder

The Cleveland Cavaliers still have the best record in the Eastern Conference, but they haven’t done very well against the NBA odds this year – certainly not as well as the Oklahoma City Thunder. Even without Kevin Durant, the Thunder are holding steady in the Western standings, and they’ll get a crack at the Cavs this Thursday night (8 PM ET, TNT) at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

There was talk that the Cavaliers were interested in doing some more wheeling and dealing after a difficult January that saw them go 7-8 SU and just 3-12 ATS. They might not be entirely happy with their roster, but they did manage to beat Oklahoma City 107-91 two Sundays ago, cashing in as 8-point home favourites on the closing line.

Things have otherwise gone quite well for the Thunder this year. Star point guard Russell Westbrook (+14.1 BPM) is well on his way to being named league MVP for the first time. However, centre Enes Kanter (0.0 BPM) broke his forearm while punching a chair on the sidelines and will miss the next two months of action. Kanter is OKC’s No. 2 scoring threat behind Westbrook at 24.0 points per 36 minutes.

NBA Odds: Kanter Leaves OKC in Bind Versus Cavaliers

The Oklahoma City have been profitable this year without Kevin Durant in the lineup, but losing Enes Kanter to a broken forearm might be too much to overcome when they host the defending-champion Cleveland Cavaliers this Thursday (8 PM ET, TNT).

Without their big man in the middle, OKC went to Cleveland two weeks ago and lost 107-91 to the Cavs as 8-point road dogs. It was one of the few bright spots for the champs in January; they went 7-8 SU and 3-12 ATS on the month, leaving their fans (and LeBron James) clamoring for reinforcements.

NBA : James, George Go Head-to-Head in Indiana on Wednesday

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Paul George of the Indiana Pacers are both headed to the All-Star Game on February 19. But before that, these two will face off on Wednesday when the Cavaliers visit Indiana.

James is going to his 13th All-Star Game, ranking in the top 10 in both scoring and assists, along with an average of 7.9 rebounds per game. He’s also second to the Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry in minutes per game, which is a bit of a concern. The Cavs should look to reduce that number in the second half of the season.

George is joining the All-Star team for the fourth time. He averages 22.5 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game, and continues to bring top-class defense to the table. He’s made either the first or second All-Defensive Team in three of the last four years, and will surely be the primary defender covering James on Wednesday.

Cleveland is 6-4 SU in their last 10 games against the Pacers, but just 2-8 ATS. The Pacers won the first meeting of the season 103-93 at home as 3-point favorites, and will be an even bigger challenge on Wednesday, as they’re hot off seven straight wins.

NBA Odds: Pacers Host Cavaliers Wednesday Night

The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped a skid and are now on a three-game winning streak, including a 140-135 win in Washington on Monday. Now that they’re back on track, they hit the road on Wednesday for their second game against the Indiana Pacers.

This game will be highlighted by the matchup between Cleveland’s LeBron James and Indiana’s Paul George. James was absent in the first meeting between the two teams on November 16, which resulted in a 103-93 home victory for the Pacers. George had 21 points, 11 boards and five assists in that game. He’s been a big part of the Pacers’ seven-game winning streak.

Politics : Trump Border Wall Specials

On January 25, Donald Trump signed an executive order called “Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements.” The Department of Homeland Security has thus been directed to start building a 2,000-mile wall on the border between the United States and Mexico. You can bet on this wall; props are available under the Politics menu at Bovada Sports.

The first prop asks what the proposed height of the border wall will be, with the over/under set at 37.5 feet. The second asks when construction will begin: before or after Independence Day, 2017. You can also bet on whether there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony. At press time, NO is the favorite at –140.

The executive orders that Trump signed were written mostly by advisers Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, and contain fuzzy language that makes the orders difficult to parse – or even carry out. Trump said during his presidential campaign that the border wall would be 35-45 feet tall, and that Mexico would pay for it. Mexico has already declined, which means Trump will have to come up with $15-25 billion in public funds. House Speaker Paul Ryan says Congress will have an appropriations bill ready this spring.

Politics Odds: How High Will Trump’s Border Wall Be?

Now that Donald Trump has signed an executive order to build his proposed border wall between the US and Mexico, the political props market is shifting into overdrive. You can bet on when construction will begin, how tall they’ll build it, and whether they’ll have a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

At press time, the over/under on the height of the border wall is 37.5 feet. Trump said during his campaign that the barricade would be “35-45 feet” tall. He also said Mexico would pay for it, but now that they’ve declined, Trump needs to secure $15-25 billion in public money.

NFL : Patriots Still –3 Over Falcons at Super Bowl 51

With just days left before Super Bowl 51, the New England Patriots are holding steady as 3-point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons. The total moved from 59 points to 59.5 in early betting, but has held firm since then. FOX will have Sunday’s coverage from Houston’s NRG Stadium starting at 6:30 PM ET.

The spread for Super Bowl 51 may not have changed, but the Patriots (16-2 SU, 15-3 ATS) have been getting most of the action thus far. Tom Brady has also moved from +150 to +125 to win his record fourth Super Bowl MVP award; his counterpart with the Falcons (13-5 SU, 12-6 ATS), Matt Ryan, is up from +230 to +180, as bettors fixate on the two quarterbacks at the Big Game.

After rumors that Lady Gaga wanted to perform her halftime show on top of NRG Stadium, it appears the league would prefer to have the retractable roof open for the first time this season. Sunday’s forecast calls for overcast skies and temperatures around 75 degrees at kick-off. This would naturally favor the Patriots. They play their home games outdoors, while the Falcons play in the cozy confines of the Georgia Dome.

NFL Odds: Big Money on Patriots for Super Bowl 51

The New England Patriots are still 3-point favorites at press time for Sunday’s Super Bowl 51 matchup (6:30 PM ET, FOX) with the Atlanta Falcons. And most of the big bets have been on the Patriots thus far.

New England might draw even more money now that the league has reportedly asked for the roof at Houston’s NRG Stadium to be open for the Big Game. That could also give the under some extra value on the Super Bowl-record total of 59.5 points. Sunday’s forecast at kick-off: overcast and a humid 75 degrees with light winds.

NHL : Home Stretch for Playoff Hopefuls

Fresh off a commanding 5-2 win following the All-Star Break, the Montreal Canadiens (30-14-7 SU, 31-20 ATS) are racking up more units (22.98) against the puck line than any other team. A lot of that is thanks to Max Pacioretty (24 goals, 18 assists), who’s coming off a hat trick against the Buffalo Sabers and is poised to continue leading the offensive output for the NHL’s seventh highest scoring team (3.02 goals per game).

Goaltender Carey Price, meanwhile, has looked better of late. After struggling for the better part of the last two months, Price seems to have found his stride again, going four straight games with a save percentage of .920 or higher. The Habs now head to Philadelphia where they’ll look to set the tone for the final leg their season.

The Philadelphia Flyers (25-20-6 SU, 20-31 ATS) are coming off of a tough loss. They fell 5-1 to the Hurricanes in their first game back after the break. Wayne Simmonds (21 goals, 17 assists) took home the All-Star Game MVP award on Sunday and was the Flyers’ lone representative at the game. He’ll need to harness some of that magic in the Flyers’ final 31 games, as Philadelphia currently sits in the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Game time is 7 PM ET.

NHL Odds: Habs Versus Flyers on Thursday

The Montreal Canadiens (30-14-7) stop in Philadelphia on Thursday (7 PM ET on Sportsnet East) and will attempt to make a push in the homestretch. Currently sitting first in the Atlantic Division, the Habs have gotten key players back healthy, including Andrei Markov and David Desharnais, and will look to build momentum against an inconsistent Flyers squad.

The Flyers (25-20-6) are clinging to the last playoff position in the Eastern Conference and are coming off of a 5-1 drubbing from the lowly Carolina Hurricanes. Look for a bounce back game from Philadelphia and a strong defensive road game from the Canadiens.
