NBA Odds: Bucks-Raptors for Eastern Supremacy

The Milwaukee Bucks (35-13 SU, 26-19-3 ATS) are mere percentage points ahead of the Toronto Raptors (37-15 SU, 23-29 ATS) for first place in the Eastern Conference. They’ll meet this Thursday at Scotiabank Arena, tipping off at 8 PM ET on TNT.

They may be in a virtual tie in the Eastern standings, but Milwaukee has played the better basketball thus far. The Bucks have a league-best point differential of plus-9.7, well ahead of the Raptors (fifth overall) at plus-5.4. They also lead Toronto 2-1 SU and ATS in their season series, with superior stats on both offense and defense – plus a top MVP candidate in Giannis Antetokounmpo, who’s putting up 26.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game and never seems to get injured.

The Raptors, on the other hand, have been scraping by without center Jonas Valanciunas, who’s been out since mid-December with a dislocated thumb. They’re 14-8 SU and 8-14 ATS since Valanciunas went on the shelf. While the Bucks are relatively healthy, Toronto will have a rest advantage in this matchup; they’ll have been idle since Sunday, after playing four games in six nights, while Milwaukee will visit the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

NBA Odds: Bucks-Thunder on ESPN

The Milwaukee Bucks (34-12 SU, 26-17-3 ATS) have out-performed everyone this year, but they’re still a distant fourth to win the NBA title at +1100. Maybe a road win this Sunday over the Oklahoma City Thunder (29-18 SU, 26-21 ATS) will earn them some attention. ESPN has the coverage at 6 PM ET.

The Bucks lead the league in point differential at plus-10, over three points per game better than anyone else, and they’ve got one of this year’s top MVP candidates in Giannis Antetokounmpo. But playing in a small market, on a team that hasn’t made it to the second round of the playoffs since 2001, has allowed Milwaukee to keep a low profile and continue shredding the NBA lines.

Oklahoma City (+2100 to win the title) have the same small-market issues, along with the league’s reigning MVP in Russell Westbrook, but they’re a familiar commodity after making the Western Conference Finals four times this decade. Injuries have kept the Thunder from playing at an elite level this year, although their plus-4.9 point differential is good for third place in the West. Defensive stopper Andre Roberson remains out indefinitely while he recovers from surgery on his left knee.

NHL Odds: Jets and Flyers Square off Following the All-Star Break

In their first game back since the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Flyers and Winnipeg Jets will look start the final leg of the season strong. With just 34 games remaining in each of their schedules, every point counts.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

The Winnipeg Jets are in a good position past the halfway point of the season. They own a two-point advantage over the Nashville Predators for first in the Central Division, with three games in hand. They’re third in the NHL with a plus 33 goal differential and sit in the top ten in nearly every major category. As the most important games in the schedule approach, coach Paul Maurice will look for his players to buckle down and take two points against a Flyers team that has struggled so far this season.

Philadelphia had high hopes entering 2018-19. With proven offensive stars up and down the lineup, Flyers’ ownership expected more than the 44 points the team has mustered thus far. But when a team has seven starting goalies on the books due to injury and poor performance, it’s not surprising Philly has struggled. Since putting their newest goaltender, Carter Hart, between the pipes, they’ve received reliable goaltending for the first time all year. With that, the Flyers will look to turn the season around beginning with a big game against the Jets. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM ET.

NHL Odds: Jets Take on Flyers in Philly

The Philadelphia Flyers are on the cusp of a fire sale as their star-studded lineup has struggled to find consistency all season. While there’s no denying that goaltending has been a disaster for the Flyers this year, they’ve also struggled to find the back of the net, averaging just 2.9 goals per game. With established scorers in their lineup, they should be able to produce more than that.

NHL Odds: Leafs Host Caps in Last Game Before Break

The Toronto Maple Leafs need the All-Star break more than just about anyone. They’ve lost seven of their last 10 games, falling well behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Atlantic Division lead. Toronto’s last game before the break will be Wednesday at home versus the Washington Capitals, beginning at 7:30 PM ET on Sportsnet.

Things started going sour for the Maple Leafs (29-17-2) in early December, after they signed hold-out centre William Nylander to a new contract. Nylander has struggled since his debut, scoring just one goal and three assists in 20 games while earning himself a demotion to Toronto’s fourth line. The Leafs are 9-9-2 this year with Nylander on the ice.

Washington (27-16-5) have played a bit better than they did during the 2017-18 regular season; they’re third in the Metropolitan Division with 59 points, one fewer than the Maple Leafs, although Toronto have the superior goal differential at plus-31 to plus-13 for the defending Stanley Cup champions. LW Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL with 33 goals, but the Capitals don’t have strong puck possession stats, and they’re worst in the league in face-offs at 46.4%. The Leafs are second in that department at 52.5%.

NHL Odds: Tampa Bay Takes on Toronto this Thursday

The top team in the NHL gets set to take on their Atlantic Division rivals as the Tampa Bay Lightning welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to town this Thursday.  The Leafs have gone through some recent struggles that has led to a .500 record over their past 10 games. Meanwhile, the Lightning have continued with dominant play, and now have a sizable 16-point lead in the Atlantic Division.

Toronto’s recent struggles have largely been due to inconsistent play from their forwards. It may seem strange to target an offense that scores an average of 3.58 goals per game, but some of Toronto’s key contributors are in significant funks. The most pronounced is star winger, William Nylander, who after missing the majority of the first half of the season due to a lockout, has managed just one goal and two assists in 17 games played. They’ll need more from Nylander and several other forwards to pull themselves out of this slump.

The Lightning, however, are torching oppositions to a tune of 4.00 goals scored per game, which is tops in the league. Game after game, Nikita Kucherov is leading the Bolts at the offensive side of the ice. They’ll be keen to extend their lead against a Leafs team that needs a win badly. Game time is 7:30 PM ET.

NBA Odds: Still No LeBron for Lakers-Thunder?

The Los Angeles Lakers (23-21 SU, 18-25-1 ATS) are finding out the hard way just how badly they need LeBron James. The Lakers are 3-7 SU and 4-6 ATS since James left the lineup with a strained groin, putting them behind the 8-ball for Thursday’s road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder (26-16 SU, 23-19 ATS). TNT has the coverage at 9:30 PM ET.

One of those James-less games was against the Thunder on January 2, and things didn’t turn out too well for the Lakers. They carried the lead into the fourth quarter, but fell apart and lost 107-100 as 6-point home dogs. This was despite Russell Westbrook shooting just 3-for-20 in one of his patented low-efficiency triple-doubles (14 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists).

There’s a chance James could suit up on Thursday. He’s officially listed as day-to-day, and his status is due for an update on Wednesday. Rajon Rondo is still a few weeks away after undergoing surgery on his right hand. However, Leonard also played 45 minutes in Toronto’s 140-138 double-overtime win over the Wizards (+5 at home). NHL Odds: Injury-Riddled Devils Host Leafs on Thursday

The New Jersey Devils have been attempting to get back on track and into a playoff position for weeks, but they’ve been hampered by injuries over the last month, losing starting goaltender, Cory Schneider, and the defending Hart Trophy winner and the team’s leading scorer, Taylor Hall, in December. They’ll need to find a way to overcome those losses if they hope to squeak out a victory against the second-best offensive team in the NHL in the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

The Devils are coming off of a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday and find themselves in 13th-place in the Eastern Conference. At press, they sit 12 points out of a playoff spot at the half-way mark of the regular season. While their season certainly isn’t over, they’ll need Schneider and Hall back if they have any chance of making a run in the second half.

The Leafs are also dealing with their fair share of injuries. They’ve lost their first and second-string goaltenders over the last two weeks, and are running with journeyman Michael Hutchinson as their starter following a trade with the Panthers. While things aren’t as desperate for the Leafs as the Devils, they’ll be eager to capitalize on a struggling New Jersey club. Game time is 7:00 PM ET.

NHL Odds: Leafs Head to New Jersey to Take on Devils

The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to the Nashville Predators on Monday and will be keen to take advantage of an undermanned Devils squad this Thursday (7:00 PM ET). With Michael Hutchinson in net, the Leafs have gone 1-2 and have surrendered eight goals in three games. The second-ranked offense in the league should be able to overcome those lackluster numbers, and will look to exploit New Jersey’s porous defense.

NBA Odds: Sixers-Knicks at the Garden

The Philadelphia 76ers (27-15 SU, 20-22 ATS) are still trying to find their rhythm in the top-heavy Eastern Conference. The New York Knicks (10-31 SU, 18-22-1 ATS) are looking for a high lottery pick at the 2019 NBA Draft. They’ll meet at Madison Square Garden this Sunday, tipping off at 1 PM ET.

Jimmy Butler was supposed to put Philadelphia over the top when he arrived in mid-November from the Minnesota Timberwolves, with Robert Covington and Dario Saric heading the other way. The results have been pretty good; the Sixers are 16-7 SU and 13-10 ATS with Butler in uniform, but they’re still in fourth place in the Eastern standings, with the worst point differential (plus-2.1) among that conference’s title contenders.

At least they’re in the hunt. The Knicks have been dead in the water since Kristaps Porzingis tore his left ACL last February – he’s yet to make his 2018-19 debut, and won’t be re-evaluated until next month. Tim Hardaway Jr. is their lead scorer at 21.8 points per 36 minutes, but his defense has been poor. Noah Vonleh and Mitchell Robinson provide all of New York’s stopping power, and Robinson is listed as day-to-day with ankle and groin injuries.

NFL Odds: Eagles-Saints at the Superdome

The New Orleans Saints (13-3 SU, 10-6 ATS) are the top favorites at +250 to win Super Bowl LIII. But if they’re going to get there, they’ll have to beat the defending champions on Sunday. New Orleans will host the Philadelphia Eagles (10-7 SU, 8-9 ATS) at 4:40 PM ET on FOX; the Saints are 8-point favorites at press time with a total of 50.5.

Philadelphia (+1300 to defend their title) grabbed the No. 6 seed in the NFC with three straight wins SU and ATS, after Nick Foles took over at quarterback for the injured Carson Wentz. Then they earned a miraculous 16-15 Wild-Card victory over the Chicago Bears (–6.5 at home), where DT Treyvon Hester barely got a fingertip on Cody Parkey’s 43-yard field goal attempt at the end of the game, sending it wide left into the upright.

New Orleans smashed the Eagles 48-7 in Week 11 as 7.5-point home favorites, although that was before Wentz was put on the shelf with a fractured vertebra. Unlike last year, when Foles took command in Week 14, Wentz hadn’t been playing at an MVP level – no doubt still hampered by that ACL injury and his extended recovery process.

NFL Odds: Eagles Take on Saints in NFC Divisional Game

Down in the fourth quarter against the NFL’s top defense - what else would fans expect Nick Foles to do? With the season on the line yet again, last year’s Super Bowl MVP took his team on his shoulders and led the Eagles to victory on the road, improving his postseason record to 4-0 over the last two years.

Bet on football at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Foles’ influence on the Eagles cannot be understated. With their playoffs hopes seemingly dashed following a Week 14 loss to the Cowboys and Carson Wentz lost to injury, Foles stepped in and beat the dominant LA Rams on the road. Since then, Foles has led the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record, including Sunday’s Wild Card win over the Bears.

The Saints, however, don’t believe in destiny. They’ve won with a ruthless offense, which ranked third in the league in points scored per game (31.5) during the regular season. At times, the Eagles’ pass defense looked exposed by Mitch Trubisky and the Bears in the Wild Card game. They ranked 30th in the NFL, surrendering an average of 269.3 passing yards per game during the regular season, so look for future Hall of Famer Drew Brees to spread the ball around and take advantage of the Eagles’ porous secondary. NFL Odds: Chiefs Host Colts in Divisional Round

The Kansas City Chiefs (12-4 SU, 9-6-1 ATS) haven’t claimed the Super Bowl in almost 50 years. While the Chiefs have been competitive since hiring Andy Reid as their head coach in 2013, they’re a whole new team this year with Patrick Mahomes II at quarterback. Mahomes led the NFL during the regular season with 50 touchdown passes and an 82.0 QBR, piloting the best offense Kansas City has ever seen – but can their defense hold its end of the bargain?

Andrew Luck will put them to the test on Saturday. After missing the entire 2017 campaign with shoulder issues, Luck found his groove in late October, quarterbacking the Colts to nine wins in their last 10 regular-season games (6-3-1 ATS) and a 21-7 victory over the Houston Texans (–1.5 at home) in the Wild Card round. Despite their recent hot streak, the Eagles are holding steady as 6-point road dogs at press time, with the total unchanged at 41. Just like last year’s Super Bowl run, it’ll be Nick Foles at quarterback for Philly after incumbent starter Carson Wentz (fractured vertebra) went on the injured list in Week 14. However, the Eagles also have multiple injuries on defense, leaving them as distant +3000 long shots to win Super Bowl LIII.

Chicago (+675) have much better odds as the NFC North champions. They’re healthy for the most part, and they feature the league’s best defense, although the Bears lack scoring punch with sophomore QB Mitchell Trubisky (24 TDs, 12 INTs) at the controls. NFL Odds: Seahawks-Cowboys Face Off in NFC Wild Card Opener

The Dallas Cowboys welcome the Seattle Seahawks to AT&T Stadium for the NFC Wild Card opener this coming weekend. With matching 10-6 records, both teams clinched playoff positions in Week 16 and played meaningless Week 17 games. Russell Wilson and the ‘Hawks’ 18th-ranked offense will look to get back on track against what has been a stingy Cowboys defense of late.

Seattle (9-5-2 ATS) is coming off of a 38-31 playoff warm-up on Sunday that saw RB Chris Carson rack up 122 rushing yards and one TD on the day. Sunday marked Carson’s fifth time eclipsing the 100-yard mark in a game this season and he has cemented himself as the cornerstone in Seattle’s offense. Seattle will need their running back to continue producing at a high level against Dallas, as Wilson’s passing attack suffered through the regular season, ranking 27th in the league in passing yards per game (198.9).

On paper, that equation plays right into Dallas’ (9-7 ATS) strength. They’ve been dominant against the run all season and give up an average of 91.3 rushing yards per game. LB Leighton Vander Esch leads all defensive players on the Cowboys with 131 tackles and will be key to the Cowboys’ success against Carson. On the offensive side of the ball, the NFL’s rushing champ, Ezekiel Elliott, will take center stage against a middle-of-the-pack Seahawks’ run D. Look for this one to be won on the ground.

NHL Odds: Leafs Ring in New Year Against Wild

This Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild will kick off 2019 with an afternoon game in Toronto. The Wild are reeling after a hot start to the season and have managed to win just four games in their last 15 (4-10-1). The Leafs have dominated teams in the offensive zone all season. Mitch Marner and John Tavares, who make up two-thirds of the Leafs’ first line, have a combined 97 points on the season and give opposing teams fits in their own end on a nightly basis. That dominance has catapulted the Leafs to the second-best offense in the NHL, which averages 3.69 goals scored per game.

In contrast, the Wild’s offense is in the bottom half of the league, averaging just 2.89 goals per game. They’ve struggled mightily of late as well, managing just 10 goals in their last seven games. Those struggles have been exacerbated by injuries to powerplay man, Mikko Koivu, and defenseman, Matt Dumba, who was leading all NHL defensemen in goals prior to his injury with 12. This is a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions. The Senators are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, mired in an ownership/front office quagmire and riddled with injuries. Meanwhile, the Canucks are climbing back towards respectability after three years of awful hockey; they’re healthy for the most part, and they have this year’s hottest rookie in centre Elias Pettersson (19 goals, 20 assists in 35 games). He leads Vancouver in scoring after dominating the Swedish Hockey League in 2017-18, earning their Rookie of the Year and playoff MVP awards.

Arguably the biggest on-ice concern for Ottawa right now is the health of veteran netminder Craig Anderson (.905 save percentage). He suffered a concussion heading into the holidays and is listed as day-to-day; Mike McKenna (.897 SV%) and Marcus Hogberg (.875 SV%) have started games in Anderson’s absence. Top blueliner Thomas Chabot (10 goals, 28 assists in 38 games) is also out for the next three weeks with an undisclosed upper-body injury.

The Leafs, meanwhile, have won five of their last six games and sit second in the Eastern Conference with 54 points on the season.

Look for Toronto to take advantage of the short-handed Wild on home ice. Game time is 2:00 PM ET.

NBA Odds: Resurgent Rockets Visit Warriors

Just when it looked like the season was getting away from them, the Houston Rockets (20-15 SU, 17-17-1 ATS) have won nine of their last 10 games at 8-1-1 ATS to take over first place in the Southwest Division. They’ll visit the top team in the Pacific, the Golden State Warriors (24-13 SU, 15-22 ATS), this Thursday at 10:30 PM ET on TNT.

The Rockets have won four straight games SU and ATS since starting point guard Chris Paul went on the injured list with a strained left hamstring. In his absence, swingman James Harden has once again taken over the controls, putting up monster numbers and playing more like last year’s MVP. Houston will require Harden’s services even more now that back-up PG Eric Gordon (knee) is also on the shelf.

Golden State, meanwhile, are one of the worst betting values in the league at 6-4 SU and 2-8 ATS over their last 10. They’ve been having issues in the paint with promising center Damion Jones (torn pec) likely out for the year; offseason signing DeMarcus Cousins is still rehabbing his Achilles injury from last January, and it might be a few weeks before “Boogie” makes his Warriors debut.

NBA Odds: Cousins Still out as Warriors Visit Blazers

The Golden State Warriors (23-12 SU, 14-21 ATS) came out of the holidays as the top team in the Pacific Division, but they’re not playing like the juggernauts of recent memory – and they won’t have their big offseason acquisition ready for Saturday’s road game against the Portland Trail Blazers (19-15 SU, 16-18 ATS). Tip-off is at 10 PM ET on NBA-TV.

The Warriors had hoped that DeMarcus Cousins might be ready to make his 2018-19 season debut on or shortly after Christmas Day. However, his recovery from last year’s torn Achilles is taking some time. Cousins’ rehab might even extend into February, leaving Golden State’s frontcourt in some disarray – center Damian Jones is also out indefinitely with a torn pec.

Portland have a healthy lineup going into Saturday’s matchup, but they’re an average team at best, outscoring teams by an average of 0.1 points per game; the Warriors have a point differential of plus-4.0. While PG Damian Lillard is scoring 27.5 points per 36 minutes for the Blazers, like most of his backcourt teammates, his defense leaves something to be desired. Big men Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins supply most of Portland’s stopping power.

NFL Odds: Vikings-Bears with NFC Wild Card at Stake

It all comes down to this for the Minnesota Vikings: Beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday, and they’ll earn a Wild Card berth in the NFC. Lose, and they’ll need some help to make the playoffs. FOX will have the kick-off from Minneapolis at 1 PM ET.

The Vikings (8-6-1 SU and ATS) kept their playoff drive alive in Week 16 by beating the Detroit Lions 27-9 as 6.5-point road favorites. That’s back-to-back SU and ATS wins for Minnesota; they didn’t move the ball particularly well against the Lions until the second half, which has been an issue for the Vikes this year – especially in the run game, where they put up just 100 yards rushing against Detroit.

Chicago (11-4 SU and ATS) have already clinched the NFC North, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be taking it easy in Week 17. The Bears can still earn the No. 2 conference seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs with a win over Minnesota and a loss by the LA Rams, and the Rams don’t host the San Francisco 49ers until later in the afternoon. The Bears beat the 49ers 14-9 in Week 16 as 4.5-point road favorites.

NFL Odds: Week 17 Features NFC North Classic in Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings own their playoff destiny: win and they’re in. They have a slim lead over the Philadelphia Eagles for the final NFC wildcard, all thanks to a tie versus an Eagles’ loss. The Bears have already beat Minnesota once this season. They controlled a Week 11 game in Chicago and came out with a 25-20 victory. Since then, the Bears have won four of five games and clinched the NFC North. Like previous Chicago Bears teams, this year’s version has won with defense. They rank third in the NFL in points allowed per game (18.9). If they can hold Minnesota’s offense to under 20 points, they’ll be in a good position to come out on top.

Like Chicago, the Vikings also win with defense. They rank first in the NFL in sacks (47) and will be hard after the Bears’ QB Mitch Trubisky. NBA Odds: Shiny Nuggets Visit Sizzling Spurs

The Nuggets started the 2018-19 regular season on fire at 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS, then ran into some turbulence as their backcourt was felled by injuries. But even with Gary Harris and Will Barton out with hip issues, and forward Paul Millsap (broken toe) joining them on the shelf three weeks ago, Denver are very much back on track at 11-3 SU and ATS since November 21, cracking the NBA’s Top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

San Antonio (second to Golden State on offensive efficiency) have spent all season with a reduced backcourt, but they could get some relief Wednesday if Lonnie Walker is ready to make his NBA debut. Walker had surgery on his right knee in early October and has been playing in the G-League this past month. After a dominant 4-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, the Boston Bruins head back to the friendly confines of the TD Garden, where they’ve amassed an 11-4-0 record. Boston has stifled opposing offenses all season and sit second in the league in team defense, having surrendered just 2.59 goals per game. They should be well-positioned to make life difficult for the offensively-challenged Ducks.
Anaheim sits in third-last place in goals scored per game, averaging just 2.53 goals. Their puttering offense has struggled without regulars Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell in the lineup, who are both on extended IR.
