NHL Odds: Flyers and Habs Do Battle at the Bell Centre

This Thursday, playoff implications are on the line as the Philadelphia Flyers head to Montreal to take on the Canadiens. The Habs have struggled of late, dropping four of their last five games. That recent skid has landed them in the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. From the Flyers’ perspective, that’s a spot they’re gunning for. At press, Philadelphia sits just six points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets and nine points behind the Canadiens for the last Wild Card spots in the East. With just 22 games left, every point counts from the Flyers.

Recognizing the urgency, Philly has rallied around rookie netminder Carter Hart and the team has won 7 of their last 10 games. After struggling with consistency at the goaltending position, Hart has stepped in and stabilized the Flyers on the way to posting a 2.67 goals against average and .920 save percentage.

Though they’ve struggled of late to keep pace in the Atlantic Division, Montreal has also received solid goaltending from former Vezina winner Carey Price. After some early-season challenges, Price has recaptured his MVP form and now boasts an 2.56 goals against average and .916 save percentage. Both clubs will see this as a must-win game, so the competition should be fierce. Tune in for the 7:30 PM ET start.

NBA Odds: Celtics Open Second Half in Milwaukee

The Boston Celtics (37-21 SU, 30-28 ATS) are one of the best teams in the NBA, but they’re only in fourth place in the Eastern Conference coming out of the All-Star break. They’ll try to gain some ground this Thursday when they visit the first-place Milwaukee Bucks (43-14 SU, 34-20-3 ATS); TNT will provide the coverage at 8 PM ET.

The Celtics went on a 12-3 SU and 8-7 ATS tear heading into the break, but chemistry still seems to be an issue in Boston, especially when it comes to All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. He’s been battling a strained right knee that’s caused him to miss six of the last 10 games, although Irving is expected to play Thursday. He’s also left open the possibility of turning down his player option for 2019-20 and leaving Boston at the end of the season.

Milwaukee have a number of free agents coming up this summer, and there’s no concern about their chemistry – the Bucks have gone 8-1 SU and ATS in their past nine games. They also lead the league with a plus-9.8 point differential, more than three points better than the No. 3-ranked Celtics at plus-6.4.

NHL Odds: Red-Hot Blues Take on Maple Leafs

The hottest team in the NHL is doing it with goaltending right now. Since replacing their starting netminder, Jake Allen, with rookie Jordan Binnington on January 7, the St. Louis Blues have won 15 of 19 games. Just one month ago, the Blues were thought to be headed to the trade deadline as sellers, with significant assets on their roster. However, with their incredible streak over the past month and a half, they’ve clawed their way into third place in the Western Conference’s Central Division. Tuesday’s contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs marks a significant test for the Blues.

The Leafs are one of the strongest offensive clubs in the NHL, scoring 3.55 goals per game. Their offensive style is sure to put the Blues’ defensive structure and hot goaltending to the test. They scored a total of 11 goals over two games against the Avalanche and Golden Knights, but may have underestimated a Coyotes team on Saturday, dropping the matchup 2-0.

St. Louis will try to extend an incredible shutout streak on Tuesday, as the Blues haven’t let in a goal in over 187 minutes, which includes two shutouts by Binnington and one by Allen. As part of a series of moves, Houston acquired veteran SG Iman Shumpert from the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. NBA Odds: League-Leading Bucks Host Wiz

The Milwaukee Bucks (38-13 SU, 29-19-3 ATS) have the best record in the NBA, but they’re only fourth at +1100 on the NBA championship futures market. A win this Wednesday on prime-time ESPN should help raise their profile. The Bucks will host the Washington Wizards (22-30 SU, 23-29 ATS), tipping off at 8 PM ET.

Milwaukee have two players on the All-Star team this year, and it’s their two leading scorers: MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo (28.9 points per 36 minutes), and Khris Middleton (20.1 points). However, their “true” second-best player is point guard Eric Bledsoe (19.3 points, 6.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds), and he’s already been ruled out for Wednesday’s game with a sore left Achilles. Jason Smith (knee) and Donte DiVincenzo (heel) will also sit this one out.

The Wizards (+12500 to win the title) are 9-8 SU and 11-6 ATS since they lost their starting point guard, perennial All-Star John Wall, to season-ending heel surgery. Bradley Beal has stepped up offensively and earned his second All-Star nod with a career-high 24.0 points per 36 minutes. Dwight Howard (back) and Markieff Morris (neck) remain out for Washington; they lost 131-115 to the Bucks on Saturday as 6.5-point home dogs.

NBA Odds: Lakers-Warriors in Must-See Matchup

The Los Angeles Lakers (26-25 SU, 21-28-2 ATS) could have LeBron James back in the lineup any day now – but they might need more than King James to beat the Golden State Warriors (36-14 SU, 23-26-1 ATS) this Saturday. Tip-off from Oracle Arena is at 8:30 PM ET on ABC.

The Warriors are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS since center DeMarcus Cousins made his season debut. The addition of Cousins gives Golden State five All-Stars in their starting rotation – plus a former All-Star in Andre Iguodala, who’s enjoying one of his better seasons at age 35. Cousins also gives the Dubs some valuable bench strength with Kevon Looney resuming his reserve role.

James remains day-to-day for the Lakers with the tender groin that has kept him out of action since December 25. However, James has practiced at close to full capacity in recent days, and might return as soon as Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Lonzo Ball (ankle) and Kyle Kuzma (hip) are also listed as day-to-day; they could become trade bait if the Lakers pursue a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis. NHL Odds: Slumping Blue Jackets Take on Jets this Thursday

It looked like the Columbus Blue Jackets were going to put an end to their losing streak when they surged back from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game against the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday night. But they were once again let down by spotty defensive play and ultimately fell 5-4. The Jets, on the other hand, managed to end a two-game slide of their own with a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins. Now, Columbus and Winnipeg will meet in Winnipeg on Thursday at 8:00 PM ET.

They may be in a virtual tie in the Eastern standings, but Milwaukee has played the better basketball thus far. They also lead Toronto 2-1 SU and ATS in their season series, with superior stats on both offense and defense – plus a top MVP candidate in Giannis Antetokounmpo, who’s putting up 26.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game and never seems to get injured.

The Raptors, on the other hand, have been scraping by without center Jonas Valanciunas, who’s been out since mid-December with a dislocated thumb. They’re 14-8 SU and 8-14 ATS since Valanciunas went on the shelf. The Bucks lead the league in point differential at plus-10, over three points per game better than anyone else, and they’ve got one of this year’s top MVP candidates in Giannis Antetokounmpo. But playing in a small market, on a team that hasn’t made it to the second round of the playoffs since 2001, has allowed Milwaukee to keep a low profile and continue shredding the NBA lines.

Oklahoma City (+2100 to win the title) have the same small-market issues, along with the league’s reigning MVP in Russell Westbrook, but they’re a familiar commodity after making the Western Conference Finals four times this decade. Injuries have kept the Thunder from playing at an elite level this year, although their plus-4.9 point differential is good for third place in the West. NHL Odds: Jets and Flyers Square off Following the All-Star Break

The Winnipeg Jets are in a good position past the halfway point of the season. They own a two-point advantage over the Nashville Predators for first in the Central Division, with three games in hand. They’re third in the NHL with a plus 33 goal differential and sit in the top ten in nearly every major category. As the most important games in the schedule approach, coach Paul Maurice will look for his players to buckle down and take two points against a Flyers team that has struggled so far this season.

Philadelphia had high hopes entering 2018-19. With proven offensive stars up and down the lineup, Flyers’ ownership expected more than the 44 points the team has mustered thus far. But when a team has seven starting goalies on the books due to injury and poor performance, it’s not surprising Philly has struggled. Things started going sour for the Maple Leafs (29-17-2) in early December, after they signed hold-out centre William Nylander to a new contract. The Leafs are 9-9-2 this year with Nylander on the ice.

Washington (27-16-5) have played a bit better than they did during the 2017-18 regular season; they’re third in the Metropolitan Division with 59 points, one fewer than the Maple Leafs, although Toronto have the superior goal differential at plus-31 to plus-13 for the defending Stanley Cup champions. LW Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL with 33 goals, but the Capitals don’t have strong puck possession stats, and they’re worst in the league in face-offs at 46.4%. NHL Odds: Tampa Bay Takes on Toronto this Thursday

The top team in the NHL gets set to take on their Atlantic Division rivals as the Tampa Bay Lightning welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to town this Thursday.  The Leafs have gone through some recent struggles that has led to a .500 record over their past 10 games. Meanwhile, the Lightning have continued with dominant play, and now have a sizable 16-point lead in the Atlantic Division.

Toronto’s recent struggles have largely been due to inconsistent play from their forwards. It may seem strange to target an offense that scores an average of 3.58 goals per game, but some of Toronto’s key contributors are in significant funks. The most pronounced is star winger, William Nylander, who after missing the majority of the first half of the season due to a lockout, has managed just one goal and two assists in 17 games played. They’ll need more from Nylander and several other forwards to pull themselves out of this slump.

The Lightning, however, are torching oppositions to a tune of 4.00 goals scored per game, which is tops in the league. Game after game, Nikita Kucherov is leading the Bolts at the offensive side of the ice. They’ll be keen to extend their lead against a Leafs team that needs a win badly. Game time is 7:30 PM ET.

NBA Odds: Still No LeBron for Lakers-Thunder?

The Los Angeles Lakers (23-21 SU, 18-25-1 ATS) are finding out the hard way just how badly they need LeBron James. The Lakers are 3-7 SU and 4-6 ATS since James left the lineup with a strained groin, putting them behind the 8-ball for Thursday’s road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder (26-16 SU, 23-19 ATS). TNT has the coverage at 9:30 PM ET.

One of those James-less games was against the Thunder on January 2, and things didn’t turn out too well for the Lakers. They carried the lead into the fourth quarter, but fell apart and lost 107-100 as 6-point home dogs. This was despite Russell Westbrook shooting just 3-for-20 in one of his patented low-efficiency triple-doubles (14 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists).

There’s a chance James could suit up on Thursday. He’s officially listed as day-to-day, and his status is due for an update on Wednesday. Rajon Rondo is still a few weeks away after undergoing surgery on his right hand. Meanwhile, back-up C/PF Nerlens Noel is day-to-day for the Thunder with a concussion, leaving a void in the Oklahoma City frontcourt. Patrick Patterson is their only remaining big behind starting center Steven Adams.

NFL Odds: Top Teams in NFL Meet in NFC Conference Championships

The NFC Divisional games have been decided, and the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints will meet this Sunday (3:05 PM ET), with the victor representing the NFC in Super Bowl LIII. The Los Angeles Rams dominated the Dallas Cowboys in nearly every facet of the Divisional game on Saturday and came out on top 30-22. For a game that featured two of the best running backs in the league, in Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott, the run game was on full display. The Rams had the clear edge, however, as the Rams’ combination of Gurley and CJ Anderson couldn’t be stopped. The Saints are well matched for a rush-focused attack, which surrendered an average of just 80.2 rushing yards per game in the regular season.

The New Orleans Saints found a way to stop the unstoppable force of Nick Foles on Sunday. After falling behind by 14, they scored 20 straight points and ousted the defending champs 20-14. Drew Brees and company are sure to be in a shootout against the Rams, so don’t miss what will likely be the game of the year.

NBA Odds: Raptors-Celtics on ESPN

Just when the Toronto Raptors (33-12 SU, 20-25 ATS) were getting healthy, a key rotation player has hit the injured list ahead of Wednesday’s big matchup with the Boston Celtics (25-17 SU, 22-20 ATS), beginning at 8 PM ET on ESPN. Fred VanVleet is listed as day-to-day with a hip/thigh contusion.

VanVleet appears to have hurt himself during Friday’s 122-105 romp over the Brooklyn Nets (+10 away). He sat out Sunday against the Wizards. Meanwhile, Kyle Lowry logged 50 minutes for the Raptors, and all the remaining starters played more than 40 minutes. They’ll have two days off to prepare for the Celtics, who visit the Nets on Monday before they get themselves back to the Garden. Jonas Valanciunas (thumb) remains out for Toronto.

Kawhi Leonard Leonard, meanwhile, is suffering from tightness in his left leg. Leonard’s issue doesn’t appear to be serious – he finished Sunday’s game in Washington after a brief visit to the dressing room. However, Leonard also played 45 minutes in Toronto’s 140-138 double-overtime win over the Wizards (+5 at home). With the Raptors returning home Thursday to play the Phoenix Suns, there’s a good chance Leonard will sit out the first of these back-to-back games.

NHL Odds: Injury-Riddled Devils Host Leafs on Thursday

The New Jersey Devils have been attempting to get back on track and into a playoff position for weeks, but they’ve been hampered by injuries over the last month, losing starting goaltender, Cory Schneider, and the defending Hart Trophy winner and the team’s leading scorer, Taylor Hall, in December. They’ll need to find a way to overcome those losses if they hope to squeak out a victory against the second-best offensive team in the NHL in the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

The Devils are coming off of a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday and find themselves in 13th-place in the Eastern Conference. At press, they sit 12 points out of a playoff spot at the half-way mark of the regular season. While their season certainly isn’t over, they’ll need Schneider and Hall back if they have any chance of making a run in the second half.

The Leafs are also dealing with their fair share of injuries. They’ve lost their first and second-string goaltenders over the last two weeks, and are running with journeyman Michael Hutchinson as their starter following a trade with the Panthers. While things aren’t as desperate for the Leafs as the Devils, they’ll be eager to capitalize on a struggling New Jersey club. Game time is 7:00 PM ET.

The second-ranked offense in the league should be able to overcome those lackluster numbers, and will look to exploit New Jersey’s porous defense.

Jimmy Butler was supposed to put Philadelphia over the top when he arrived in mid-November from the Minnesota Timberwolves, with Robert Covington and Dario Saric heading the other way. The results have been pretty good; the Sixers are 16-7 SU and 13-10 ATS with Butler in uniform, but they’re still in fourth place in the Eastern standings, with the worst point differential (plus-2.1) among that conference’s title contenders.

At least they’re in the hunt. The Knicks have been dead in the water since Kristaps Porzingis tore his left ACL last February – he’s yet to make his 2018-19 debut, and won’t be re-evaluated until next month. Tim Hardaway Jr. is their lead scorer at 21.8 points per 36 minutes, but his defense has been poor. Noah Vonleh and Mitchell Robinson provide all of New York’s stopping power, and Robinson is listed as day-to-day with ankle and groin injuries.

The New Orleans Saints (13-3 SU, 10-6 ATS) are the top favorites at +250 to win Super Bowl LIII. But if they’re going to get there, they’ll have to beat the defending champions on Sunday. Philadelphia (+1300 to defend their title) grabbed the No. 6 seed in the NFC with three straight wins SU and ATS, after Nick Foles took over at quarterback for the injured Carson Wentz. Then they earned a miraculous 16-15 Wild-Card victory over the Chicago Bears (–6.5 at home), where DT Treyvon Hester barely got a fingertip on Cody Parkey’s 43-yard field goal attempt at the end of the game, sending it wide left into the upright.

New Orleans smashed the Eagles 48-7 in Week 11 as 7.5-point home favorites, although that was before Wentz was put on the shelf with a fractured vertebra. Unlike last year, when Foles took command in Week 14, Wentz hadn’t been playing at an MVP level – no doubt still hampered by that ACL injury and his extended recovery process.

NFL Odds: Eagles Take on Saints in NFC Divisional Game

Down in the fourth quarter against the NFL’s top defense - what else would fans expect Nick Foles to do? Foles’ influence on the Eagles cannot be understated. With their playoffs hopes seemingly dashed following a Week 14 loss to the Cowboys and Carson Wentz lost to injury, Foles stepped in and beat the dominant LA Rams on the road. Since then, Foles has led the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record, including Sunday’s Wild Card win over the Bears.

The Saints, however, don’t believe in destiny. They’ve won with a ruthless offense, which ranked third in the league in points scored per game (31.5) during the regular season. At times, the Eagles’ pass defense looked exposed by Mitch Trubisky and the Bears in the Wild Card game. Andrew Luck will put them to the test on Saturday. After missing the entire 2017 campaign with shoulder issues, Luck found his groove in late October, quarterbacking the Colts to nine wins in their last 10 regular-season games (6-3-1 ATS) and a 21-7 victory over the Houston Texans (–1.5 at home) in the Wild Card round. NFL Odds: Eagles, Bears Wrap up Wild-Card Weekend

The defending champions are still alive – barely. After sweeping their last three regular-season games SU and ATS, the Philadelphia Eagles (9-7 SU, 7-9 ATS) have earned the No. 6 seed in the NFC, and a Wild-Card game this Sunday against the No. 3 Chicago Bears (12-4 SU and ATS). Despite their recent hot streak, the Eagles are holding steady as 6-point road dogs at press time, with the total unchanged at 41. Just like last year’s Super Bowl run, it’ll be Nick Foles at quarterback for Philly after incumbent starter Carson Wentz (fractured vertebra) went on the injured list in Week 14. However, the Eagles also have multiple injuries on defense, leaving them as distant +3000 long shots to win Super Bowl LIII.

Chicago (+675) have much better odds as the NFC North champions. They’re healthy for the most part, and they feature the league’s best defense, although the Bears lack scoring punch with sophomore QB Mitchell Trubisky (24 TDs, 12 INTs) at the controls. His task on Sunday is to avoid mistakes, and take advantage of the generous field position his defense will try to provide.

NFL Odds: Seahawks-Cowboys Face Off in NFC Wild Card Opener

The Dallas Cowboys welcome the Seattle Seahawks to AT&T Stadium for the NFC Wild Card opener this coming weekend. With matching 10-6 records, both teams clinched playoff positions in Week 16 and played meaningless Week 17 games. Russell Wilson and the ‘Hawks’ 18th-ranked offense will look to get back on track against what has been a stingy Cowboys defense of late.

Seattle (9-5-2 ATS) is coming off of a 38-31 playoff warm-up on Sunday that saw RB Chris Carson rack up 122 rushing yards and one TD on the day. Sunday marked Carson’s fifth time eclipsing the 100-yard mark in a game this season and he has cemented himself as the cornerstone in Seattle’s offense. Seattle will need their running back to continue producing at a high level against Dallas, as Wilson’s passing attack suffered through the regular season, ranking 27th in the league in passing yards per game (198.9).

On paper, that equation plays right into Dallas’ (9-7 ATS) strength. They’ve been dominant against the run all season and give up an average of 91.3 rushing yards per game. LB Leighton Vander Esch leads all defensive players on the Cowboys with 131 tackles and will be key to the Cowboys’ success against Carson. On the offensive side of the ball, the NFL’s rushing champ, Ezekiel Elliott, will take center stage against a middle-of-the-pack Seahawks’ run D. Look for this one to be won on the ground.

He’ll be up against the 16th-ranked run defense of the Seahawks that held opponents to 115.1 yards per game. In addition, Seattle struggled to keep opponents off the board in the passing game in 2018, ranking 20th in that category. As a result, Dallas may have its choice in how they attack Seattle’s defense. Be sure to tune in to see how this one unfolds.
