NHL Odds: Slumping Blue Jackets Take on Jets this Thursday

It looked like the Columbus Blue Jackets were going to put an end to their losing streak when they surged back from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game against the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday night. But they were once again let down by spotty defensive play and ultimately fell 5-4. The Jets, on the other hand, managed to end a two-game slide of their own with a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins. Now, Columbus and Winnipeg will meet in Winnipeg on Thursday at 8:00 PM ET.

As Winnipeg’s first line goes, so do the Jets. Tuesday night’s victory was no different, as the combination of Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor put up two goals and three assists on the night. Together, they’ve registered an astounding 163 points on the season and will be a tremendous challenge for the Blue Jackets.

After failing to pick up a single point three games in a row, the Blue Jackets now have a slim one-point lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They’ll need to bounce back on Thursday if they hope to maintain their playoff positioning in the Metropolitan Division.

NHL Odds: Scheifele and the Jets Host the Blue Jackets

Two teams that pride themselves on “heavy” play will go toe-to-toe on Thursday in Winnipeg. The Jets are coming off of an important 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins and will be keen to build on that success in their own rink. After a strong performance from goaltender Connor Hellebuyck against the Bruins, we’ll expect him between the pipes against Columbus.

Columbus may welcome a game away from Nationwide Arena, as they’ve put together a superior road record of 14-8-1 than what they’ve been able to muster in front of their own fans. The Jets have been inconsistent of late, so perhaps this will be the opportunity the Blue Jackets need to break their three-game losing streak. Puck drops at 8:00 PM ET.
