This year’s favorite for Best Motion Picture Drama is Manchester By the Sea at –150. The only viable competitor is Moonlight at +140. Manchester By the Sea has more star power, including Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, so it’s more likely to earn the HFPA vote. Affleck is also the clear favorite at –350 to win Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama after putting in a career-defining performance.
The Best Actress race is even more lopsided. Natalie Portman is –400 to win for her starring role in Jackie, where she portrays Jacqueline Kennedy. Both Portman and the film have received strong critical acclaim, with Oscars likely to follow. In the musical/comedy category, La La Land is the runaway favorite at –5000, with female lead Emma Stone pegged at –600 to win Best Actress, and Damian Chazelle checking in at –400 for Best Director.
Entertainment Odds: Golden Globes for Affleck, Portman?
The 74th Golden Globes take place this Sunday (8 PM ET, NBC) in Beverly Hills, and if the odds hold up, it should be a golden night for Casey Affleck (–350) and Natalie Portman (–400). They’re the heavy favorites to win Best Actor and Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama.Affleck was especially brilliant as the male lead in Manchester By the Sea, which is favored to win Best Motion Picture Drama at –150. Portman’s portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in the critically-acclaimed Jackie could earn her a few more trophies at next month’s Academy Awards.
