MLB Odds: Jays, Yanks in Midseason Funk

The Toronto Blue Jays (37-44, –16.17 betting units) have lost eight of their last 10 games, falling back into last place in the American League East. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees (43-37, –3.68 units) were on top of the division standings before going into a 5-14 tailspin. They’ll try to sort things out Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium; first pitch is at 1:05 PM ET on Rogers Sportsnet and the MLB Network.

The Jays are expected to send Marco Estrada (4.10 FIP) to the mound Wednesday. He’s pitching about as well as he did last year (4.15 FIP), but with his BABIP rising from .234 to .327, Estrada has led Toronto to 3.92 units in losses on a team record of 7-10, including 1-5 in his last six appearances.
Michael Pineda (4.26 FIP) is up for New York, and he doesn’t look nearly as good as in years past, but the Yankees are still 0.50 units in the black after winning 10 of Pineda’s 16 starts. Giving him 6.94 runs of support per game helps; the over is 12-4 behind Pineda this season, and a tasty 7-2 in the Bronx.

MLB Odds: Jays-Yankees in the Big Apple

Two struggling AL East teams will meet this Wednesday (1:05 PM ET, SNET) when the Toronto Blue Jays visit the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays (37-44, –16.17 betting units) have lost eight of their last 10, while the Yankees (43-37, –3.68 units) are 5-14 since the middle of June.

Marco Estrada (4.10 FIP) is expected to pitch for Toronto opposite Michael Pineda (4.26 FIP). The Jays have lost five of Estrada’s last six starts; New York is 2-4 behind Pineda during the same span, driving the over to the pay window every time.
