MLB : Red Sox, Giants Square Off in Boston

Two teams in the thick of the postseason hunt will wrap up a two-game set on Wednesday, when the Boston Red Sox host the San Francisco Giants. Game time is 7 PM ET with ESPN providing coverage.

The Giants earned a win the last time Matt Cain (1-5, 5.34 ERA) was on the mound despite him lasting just 3.2 innings. He gave up three runs on five hits in an 11-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, striking out three and walking five. He then went on the disabled list with a bad hamstring, making this his first start since June 13. The 31-year-old righty has faced the Red Sox once, pitching well in a 0-1 loss in Boston back in June 2007.

The Red Sox will start with Drew Pomeranz (8-7, 2.47 ERA), who is making his debut after being traded from San Diego. In his last start, he tossed seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 shutout of the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up two hits, striking out six and walking two. Having played in the National League West, Pomeranz is very familiar with the Giants; he’s already pitched 17.1 innings against them this season alone.

MLB Odds: World Series Contenders Face Off in Boston
Two teams with a good shot of going to the World Series meet Wednesday for part 2 of a two-game series, as the Boston Red Sox host the San Francisco Giants.

Drew Pomeranz, who was traded from San Diego over the All-Star break, is making his debut for Boston. He faces a team he’s very familiar with, having pitched against the Giants three times this season with a 0-2 result and an ERA of 2.60. The Giants respond with Matt Cain, who was struggling this season before suffering a hamstring injury and being put on the disabled list for a month.
